World Environment Day | 5th June 2025 | Theme: Beat Plastic Pollution
This year, World Environment Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Sadvidya High School, Vijayanagar, Mysore, through a series of events and activities.
To mark the occasion, a special assembly was conducted where Smt. Archana H.K., Science teacher, delivered an inspiring speech highlighting the importance of environmental conservation and the global significance of World Environment Day. Her message motivated students to take responsibility for protecting the planet and raising awareness about pressing environmental issues. Smt. Mamatha K. Headmistress addressed the students on conserving nature.
Smt. Bhargavi S M., Kannada teacher, dictated the oath to students on the occasion.
As part of the day’s activities, a drawing competition was organized for students of classes 1 to 5:
* Classes 1 and 2: Colouring Competition
* Class 3: “Save Trees”
* Class 4: “Save the Environment”
* Class 5: “Save the Environment and Save Animals”
An essay competition was also held for students of classes 6 to 10. The topics included:
* The Impact of Plastic Pollution on Marine Life
* My Role in Protecting the Environment
* Plastic: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle – Why It Matters
Around 10:30 a.m., students of classes 9th and 10th were taken to the Regional Museum of Natural History in Siddharthnagar, Mysore to attend the special session how to beat plastic pollution organized by Museum authorities. Students took a tour around the museum exhibits, which showcased the rich biodiversity of the Western Ghats.
They also visited a nearby eco-friendly establishment to gain practical insights into environmental care. A poster-making competition was conducted to allow students to creatively express their thoughts and solutions for a greener future.
The day-long celebration helped raise awareness and encouraged students to take a pledge to actively contribute towards the mission to Beat Plastic Pollution.
